Importing Sources from Databases within EndNote

It is possible to do simple searches in a few selected databases (e.g. PubMed and Web of Science) from the EndNote interface. Structured and advanced searches for research should be done in the databases' original interface as EndNote's interface doesn't support this kind of searching.

Screenshot showing how to search in selected databases from within the EndNote interface.

1. Select database in the left pane. If the group set "Online Search" is closed, click on the arrow to the left of the name. If you wan to add additional databases to the list, choose the + icon.

2. Choose relevant search fields and type the search terms (only single words or phrases will work). It is possible to combine content in different fields using the Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT.

3. Choose "Search" to run the search in the database.

4. The result of the search is displayed in your library but nothing is added yet.

5. Information for each reference is shown on the right pane. Tick on the box(es) on the left side for references you want to add to your library.

6. Choose the +-button above the result list to add the selected references permanently to your library.

7. Choose "Clear Search" if you want to run another search.

References not selected by you in the result list will be automatically removed when you go back to the  "All Reference" group or close EndNote.
