User guide for the reference management software EndNote.

An Overview of the Library Interface

The library interface is divided into different work areas (panes and menus). Here is an overview:

1. In the main menu you will find all of EndNote's function from the drop-down menus.

2. Group pane with default groups and personal groups created by you. Some groups are temporary depending on what you are doing.

All References: All references in your EndNote library.

Document 1: A temporary group that will be created when you start adding citations to a manuscript, containing the references used in the manuscript. The group has the same name as the manuscript file.

Recently Added: A list of recently imported references. If you right-click on the group you can choose the time-period for how long new additions should be displayed.

Unfiled: References not included in groups.

Trash: Deleted references. Right-click on the group to empty the thrash.

My Groups: Groups and group sets created by you.

Tags: An overview over the tags that you have created and the references that are tagged by these.

Find Full Text: The status for EndNote's Find Full Text function.

Online Search: A list of databases that can be searched directly from EndNote's interface.

3. A list of all references in the library. The list can be sorted in different ways.

4. Simpel and Advanced search.

5. Shortcut menu for often used functions like insert citation, create a new reference and find full text.

6. Tabs for information about the references and editing.

Summary: Detailed information about the selected reference.

Edit: Here you can correct or update a reference.

PDF: Opens the PDF-reader and displays the PDF fpr the selected reference if available.

7. Preview of a selected reference in the style you have chosen. You can also select another style here.

8. Synchronizing your library if you have activated library sharing with EndNote Online.
