Creating a reference from a PDF-file

EndNote can create a reference in your library from a PDF-file and adding the file to the reference. This is only possible from professionally made PDF-files (e.g. from journal publishers) and will not always work.

1. Choose "File" from EndNote's main menu.

2. Choose "Import".

3. Choose "File" if you are going to create a reference from a single PDF-file. Choose "Folder" if you have a folder with several PDF-files that you want to create references from.

4. In the next window, choose the PDF-files or the folder that are going to be used in the creation of new references.

5. Choose "Import Option" "PDF" from the drop-down menu.

6. Choose "Import".

EndNote will now create new references from the PDF-files in the library and attach the PDF-files to these. We recommend that you check that the new references are correct.

If the import and the creation of a new reference fails, the reference will be empty except for the name of the PDF-file. If this happens, you need to import the reference from a database or adding it manually to the library and then attach the PDF-file manually to the reference.
