Manually Adding Sources

If a source cannot be imported from a database, you have to manually add it to your library. Below you will find an example of how to add a book reference to your library.

1. To add a new reference manually, choose the "New Reference" icon located on the shortcut menu above the references. You can laso access "New Reference" from "References" in the main menu.

3. Add author name(s) as shown in the figure. Each author must have their own line. If you do not have the first name, use the initial follow by a period. If the author is an organization or institution, add the whole name followed by a comma (e.g. World Health Organization,).

4. Add content to all necessary fields to get a correct citation. You can also add additional information that may be useful for you (e.g. keywords, notes, research notes). You can also add the full text of the source  (see guide for this in the main menu).

5. When you are finished, choose "Save" and close the registration window.

Check NTNU Academic Writing if you are unsure how to add a source correctly to your library.

If, you need information about how different types of sources should be cited and how to add these correctly into your library, check out NTNU Academic Writing.Screenshot from NTNU Academic Writing showing an example of information about reference styles. Here you can find information about the citations style requirements for five common styles and how you should add data in your EndNote library so that the references will be displayed correctly.

It is important to note that the information on how to do things may be different if you use the English or Norwegian version of some of the styles. If you use the Norwegian version you must use the information in the Norwegian version of NTNU Academic Writing and visa versa.

If you need to copy one or more references between two libraries, this can be done in the following way:

Screenshot showing how a reference can be moved from one library to another.

1.  Both libraries should be open on the screen. Highlight the reference(s) that you want to copy.

2. Pull the references to the another library and release when you see the + icon (weakly visible in the figure), but see arrow).

Another way is to right-click on the highlighted references and choose "Copy". Then click into the other library, right-click, and choose "Paste".
