EndNote 2025 has implemented several AI functions. E. g., you can ask the AI assistant to create an independent summary of the content of an attached PDF file. A recent update (version 2025.1) provides additional functions. You can ask questions to the AI assistant about the content of a PDF file and you can ask the assistant to translate all or parts of the content to another language.
NB! The AI assistant and its functions are only available for libraries and content that are shared and synchronized with EndNote Online. When you active the AI assistant for the first time, you need to accept the terms of use. The AI assistant is using the content in EndNote Online even though you are using the assistant with the desktop version.
Remember always to be critical to the texts and answers provides by the AI assistant, and you should always check that the information is correct.
1. Choose the PDF tab.
2. Turn on the AI assistant (we recommend to have this turned off if you do not want to get reviews automatically every time you choose the PDF tab). If you haven't synchronized your library with EndNote Online, it is recommended to turn of the AI assistant to avoid getting questions about logging in every times you access the PDF tab.
3. The AI assistant creates an independent review of the chosen PDF file.

1. You can ask a question about the content of the chosen PDF and later ask follow-up questions (you can have a chat with the AI assistant).
2. The AI assistant answers your question.
3. Click "Read more" to see the complete answer from the AI assistant.

This function may take some time depending on the amount of content in the PDF file.

1. Click on the translate icon in the PDF menu and you can chose to get the complete content of the chosen PDF translated to the language you choose from the drop down menu. In addition, it is possible to get parts of the text translated by highlighting the text, right clicking, and choosing "Translate selected text". The menu you get when right clicking is also offering the option of creating a summery of the highlighted text.
Several languages are available for translation, but it doesn't seem that the translation is working for all of these.
